There’s a new playground in town! And, what can we say, it’s awesome!
On January 23rd, Joanne Land Playground at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock opened its doors to children of all ages. This Extreme Generation Play Unit is different than any other playground in the 512 and rivals our two favorite playgrounds, the All Abilities Park also in Round Rock and the Creative Playscape in Georgetown (what’s up with all the cool playgrounds being up North?).

How many of you vowed to do more for body and soul this year? Congratulation, that's awesome!
Now
– we’re already 1 week into the new year -, how many of you have been
using the excuse "It's impossible for me to work out with kids."?
Sorry, but that's not an excuse. Call us traitors or backstabbers, but we've gathered over 20 kid-friendly Gyms and Fitness Studios that either offer kids classes or child care, which allows you to keep your New Year's resolution. Be brave, read on.

Did you know that vultures are the only birds that can smell?
Have you ever milked or watched someone milk a cow?
Have you ever wondered why male birds are prettier than female birds?
Would you believe us if we told you that pigs are some of the smartest and cleanest animals around?
Have you ever witnessed the birth of a brand new calf?
We experienced and learned about all of the above and more from Farmer Dave and Farmer Chris during our visit of Crowe’s Nest Farm.

“I’m new to Austin and I’m looking for other Mama’s in the area.”
“We’re expecting and would love to meet up with other expecting parents.”
“Stay-at-home Dad is looking for other Dads to take the kids to fun places.”
Sounds
familiar? Maybe you’re transitioning from "your normal life" to a life
with children. Or you’re a stay-at-home Mom or Dad who’s looking for
things to do with your kids during the week. Or you’re a working Mom or Dad
that would like to meet up with other parents and kids on the weekends.
Or you’re new to the 512 and just want to socialize and interact with
other Moms and Dads.
Whatever you’re looking for, do not despair, my friends. We’ve just added the category Play Groups / Mom Groups / Dad Groups to our directory which currently lists 119 groups and will help you get connected.

Our school does that fun thing where Kindergartners are “Queen for a Day” or “King for a Day”. They get to wear a crown and the entire class draws the queen or king. The teacher binds the drawings into a book and the queen or king can take the book home with her/him.
The book is adorable and we got a good laugh out of it. Plus, there are quite some little Picassos in her class, check it out.

As we all know there’s tons of stuff to do in the 512,
whether it’s spring, summer, fall, or winter. However, visiting some of
those fun places can certainly leave a hole in your wallet. Especially
if you’re familiar with questions like “Oh, that was so much fun, can we
do that again? PLEEEAAAASE?” or if you’re simply trying to save some
money.
So, the POGO Pass may just be the right thing for you. Read on for details.

My daughters found my old oven with stove top in my parents’ attic
and of course it ended up in the kitchen with the request to bake
cupcakes in the oven and make hot chocolate on the stove. It’s probably
safe to say that today the oven is an antique (and would certainly be
outlawed in the United States) so I wasn’t sure whether it would still
work.
