Little Hands Help! by Mike and Mackenzie Morrison [Book Review + Giveaway]

A book meant to remind parents that their ‘little hands’ have big desires to help, too!

Little Hands Help! by Mike and Mackenzie Morrison

Today’s featured book Little Hands Help! By Mike and Mackenzie Morrison is about a family who has a child named Angela. Angela is starting to understand helping and its differences as you get older. She has gotten good at helping her family around the house with her chores and at school with her class but she realizes she wants to help her Mom and Dad do more of their ‘big hands’ chores.

Little Hands Help!

Angela is a young girl who likes to help. She realizes that she is helping out with small things but she wants to be move involved with her family’s more ‘grown up’ chores. She sees that her mom and dad are working hard around the house but when she tries to help she is told to do her “own” chores.

At school, she knows she is a great helper to her classmates and that gets Angela thinking “what can I do to get my parents attention?” Angela comes up with an amazing idea to help her parents understand how she wants to help.

She invites them to a family meeting where she introduces the kissing snake that will give her parents a kiss each time they let Angela ‘help’ in a larger way.

As a family, they start to see what Angela has been trying to verbalize all along and the snake starts to give kisses as Angela works to use her little hands to help in bigger ways.

The Verdict

Tonight, we read this book as a family. This was after mom and dad did ‘mom and dad chores,’ and my 4-year-old sat with me doing  his ‘paperwork’ while I graded  middle school science papers. This book’s message of helping hit home to ALL of us, making us realize that we needed to remember that just because my son has ‘little hands’ doesn’t mean he isn’t capable of being more included in our family life.

My son LOVED this book and we talked about how this message would help us tomorrow, as our little and big hands would help each other like a family should. He would like to read it again, and has already asked to bring it to class.
