Dart’em Up - A Fun Place For Nerf Nerds Of All Ages [Review + Giveaway]

Fun indoor activity: play dart tag games with family and friends

When I was a kid, I liked playing Cowboys and Indians with my brothers and the neighborhood kids. We’d dress up, ride our invisible horses and shoot our water guns and bows and arrows at each other.

About 10 years ago I gave paint ball a try and failed miserably. I was the only person who still had almost all her ammunition at the end of the game due to a painful encounter with a jerk who shot at me from a distance of 3 feet, which led to the fact that I barely left my hiding spot for the rest of the game.

Therefore, I was rather hesitant to try another game that involves shooting and get shot. However, I summoned all my courage and took my girls to DartemUp. And guess what? I LOVED it and the first thing the kids asked me when we were done was “when do we go again?”.

What Is Dart’em Up?

Dart’em Up is Austin’s first indoor Foam Dart Sports Arena—a fun and exciting place to play Dart Tag games with family and friends.

Who Can Dart’em Up?

Dart’em Up is action-packed fun for solo players, group battles, birthday parties, employee team building, company events and fundraisers. Perfect for kids and kids at heart from 5 years and up. As long as you can hold, load, and shoot a Nerf blaster, you’re in!

My 5-year old had an absolute blast. I’m not sure how many times she actually shot her blaster and actually “took down an enemy”, but she had so much fun just hiding behind the obstacles and running around. Her older sister was totally into it as well.

Equipment and Safety

All players agree to participate in a safe and responsible manner and to follow arena referee directions at all times.

Briefing room

All players must go through the briefing room for instructions and rules of the game. This is also where you get your equipment and your team-jersey.

I’m not sure why they wanted to put the girls and me in different teams, but I asked them to put us all on the same team. So, if this happens to you, just ask.

They could have done a little better job explaining the games and what exactly is going to happen in the arena. It was very hard to understand the referee in the arena, so that at the beginning we had no idea what we were supposed to do. We did figure it out after a few games and after talking to other team members though.

Safety glasses

All players must wear protective eyewear at all times.

Blasters

A wide variety of blasters are available for players to pick: Level 1 through Level 6. The standard blaster included in a one-hour play is a Level 1 blaster. You have the option to upgrade your blaster to any of the higher level blasters at an additional cost.

Since it was our first time at Dart’em Up and we usually don’t “nerf” at home, we stuck with the Level 1 blasters and they worked fine for us. If you have younger kids, you may want to try which blaster is the easiest to push for those little fingers.

But since I’m a pro now (cough-cough), I may upgrade to a higher level next time.

Socks

Yep, it's a socksy-kind of place. No player with shoes will be allowed in the arena, socks only. Socks are available to purchase if needed.

Nerf Foam Dart Games

Dart’em Up presents hour long dart tag games―from Team Elimination battles to Humans v. Zombies― pitting two teams against each other in fun, organized chaos with trained referees, music, and a full arsenal of Nerf blasters.

Our favorite game was Capture the flag, where teams defend their own flag while simultaneously venturing into the other team’s territory to capture their flag. They also have a very smart game that I might incorporate in our everyday lives: both teams pick up all the darts and the team that picked up the most, gets an advantage in the next game.
