Healthy Kids Running Series Coming Back To Cedar Park This Spring

A little league for runners where all ability levels are welcomed

Healthy Kids Running Series Cedar Park
The Healthy Kids Running Series (HKRS) is a national, community-based non-profit that provides a fun, inclusive five-week running series for ages 2-14, designed for kids to get active, feel accomplished and lay the foundation for a healthy lifestyle.

HKRS has been encouraging kids nationwide to “Get Up and Go” since its inception in Philadelphia ten years ago, and has been a spring and fall fixture in Cedar Park for the past four years. Kelly Gin and Patrick Walz are community coordinators for the Cedar Park location and are excited about the upcoming spring season starting on April 19th. The HKRS running community has grown substantially over the last two years, and races will be moving to Milburn Park this season! In the fall, HKRS Cedar Park had almost 350 runners and were the 2nd largest series in the nation out of almost 250 locations. What a great active community!

HKRS likes to describe themselves as the little league for runners where all ability levels are welcomed. They encourage kids to start and finish their race each week, whatever their pace. To allow everyone to compete, there are age-appropriate race divisions based on grade level and gender. Children as young as ages 2-3 can race the 50 yard dash, with progressively longer distances all the way up to middle schoolers, who run 1 mile. There are two series per year, in the spring and the fall, and each are five weeks in duration. The runners compete each week for a chance to earn points, and at the end of the series, the top three boys and girls with the most points in their respective age division earn a trophy. All participants registered for the full series ($35 before 3/29) will receive a Healthy Kids Running Series technical shirt in their race packet and a finisher’s medal after race 5.

Kelly and Patrick are highly passionate about this series and truly believe in its mission and core values. They work to engage their community and families by providing an inclusive youth running experience, inspiring kids to believe in themselves and to lead an active healthy lifestyle. All levels of runners are included, and there is a focus on encouraging personal improvements each week. They couldn’t do it without our local sponsors and volunteers, especially our volunteers from Team Beef and Cedar Park High School.

Registration for this spring’s series has already begun. Each race will be held Sunday at 4 PM at Milburn Park, starting on April 19th and concluding on May 17th.
