Its mission of empowerment through horses extends to job training, education, and family support, fostering inclusive opportunities and partnerships with other nonprofits.
RED Arena Programs
RED Arena offers a variety of programs centered around therapeutic riding and horse care.
Equine Assisted Therapy aka Physical Therapy with Hippotherapy
Licensed & PATH Registered Physical Therapists use the dynamic motion of the horse with positioning and exercises to achieve specific patient treatment goals. This dynamic activity facilitates improved balance, posture, range of motion, mobility, and gross motor skills. Serving ages 2 - 99+.
Therapeutic Riding
PATH Certified Instructors offer personalized horseback riding lessons for all ages and abilities, focusing on building independence. Lessons include horse care, tacking, and riding, with options in both the arena and on scenic trails. Suitable for ages 5 and up.
Sibling Riding Lessons
As part of our family support programs, beginner riding lessons for the siblings of our participants are also available.
Support Programs
Horses are great motivators, listeners and teammates. Being with them provides numerous opportunities for learning, fitness and wellbeing as incorporated into our support programs.
Physical Therapy
Being with horses can be a great motivator. Traditional therapies (non-riding) can incorporate horse care and horse activities while working on functional skills, gross motor, fine motor and communication.
RED-Y to read
Build excitement for learning by reading to one of our sweet therapy horses. This program is available to everyone including riders, siblings of riders and kids from the community. The 30 min sessions include brushing and walking the mini horses. Reading tutoring with certified teachers and horses is also available.
Job Training
Our vocational education offers teens and adults hands on job training on horse care, barn management and social skills for any workplace setting. RED arena offers a safe and supportive environment to practice social interaction at a variety of levels.
Family Bonding for foster village families
RED has partnered with Foster Village to offer a free family bonding activity with the mini horses. The hour can include reading to the mini horses, grooming and walking them with an opportunity for lots of great pictures. Sessions are typically scheduled on Mondays at 5pm based on availability. Email or text the barn phone to schedule the session.
Adult Vocational Program & Gift Shop
The Adult Vocational Program at RED Arena offers job training for adults with disabilities, focusing on skills like craft creation, social interaction, self-care, fitness, and retail experience in their gift shop. Proceeds from the shop, which sells seasonal crafts made by participants, support the program. The Dripping Springs location provides 4-hour daily sessions, available up to four days a week.
Horse Camps
Horse Camp is inclusive for Riders of all ability levels and open to everyone in the community including siblings and friends. Each day includes horseback riding, horse care, mini horses, gross motor games, fine motor crafts.
Daily Rides
In the summer our hourly rides are scheduled 4 days in row on Mon/Tues/Wed/Thur each week. This is a great way to get an intensive boost with daily sessions.
💡 Visit Life Is Better With Friends at the RED Arena Fall Reins Market and check out their fun, interactive 'My Friends and I' friendship book for kids aged 5-12 ! The book takes a journey from friend to friend, with each one answering cool questions like, “What’s your favorite food?”, “What do you like to do in your free time?”, “What songs do you love?”, “What books do you enjoy?”, and “What do you want to be when you grow up?” There’s even a spot for a photo or a drawing! My Friends and I is a great way for kids to learn more about their friends, make new connections, and create memories they’ll treasure forever.
The blog Beyond the Spectrum: The Power of Friendship for Children with Autism highlights how My Friends and I can be a valuable tool to help children with disabilities understand and connect with their peers, and vice versa. Meanwhile, Animal-Assisted Friendships: How Animals Can Help Kids Build Social Skills explores the benefits of animal-assisted friendships in improving children's social skills and emotional well-being. Both blogs showcase the power of fostering connection, whether through peer interaction or the support of animals.
