Broken Hearts and Calloused Hands
While domestic violence can take on different forms, it always leads to broken families and hurting individuals. Broken Hearts and Calloused Hands is a non-profit organization located in Lago Vista, TX, with the mission to combat domestic violence in order to break the cycle, and to help and bring hope to domestic violence victims transitioning out of dangerous situations through providing resources, temporary shelter and counseling for individuals and families.

Broken Hearts and Calloused Hands started out as a simple question: How can we serve hurting individuals and families affected by domestic violence in our community?

Broken Hearts and Calloused Hands

Most of Broken Hearts and Calloused Hands' board members are survivors of various forms of violence and abuse and try to bring different perspectives to the table, on how we can continue to serve our clients with sensitivity and care.

Founder Rebekah Fountain shares her own story: "My husband and I started BHCH after I grew up in an abusive home and watched my mother and sisters suffer. My father suffered from untreated PTSD after serving in the Vietnam War, and he did not handle his anger well such that he would often fly into fits of rage that would result in physical harm to us. My mother tried to leave him and even bought a fixer upper double wide on her own to start over. But he would not leave her alone. She eventually lost her third battle with cancer and passed on, never having obtained freedom from him. If she had received support from our families, friends or even our church, her outcome may have ended very differently. But no one stepped in to help, not even when she was on her deathbed."
