My daughters found my old oven with stove top in my parents’ attic
and of course it ended up in the kitchen with the request to bake
cupcakes in the oven and make hot chocolate on the stove. It’s probably
safe to say that today the oven is an antique (and would certainly be
outlawed in the United States) so I wasn’t sure whether it would still
work.
School’s out and it’s hot? Don’t despair, my dear Austinites. There are
plenty of things to do in air-conditioned fun places in and around
Austin.
Find the perfect indoor activity for any age group, near you or across town.
Inspired by Mother Nature and the Woodland Faerie Trail at
Zilker Botanical Garden,
my daughters (5 and 3) and I created this cute little Fairy Garden in
our back yard. The material we used is 80% “au natural” and includes
items we found in our yard, our neighborhood, our craft box, and at my
favorite new craft store, the
Austin Creative Reuse Center.
Baby on the way? Brand new baby? Kids young enough to tolerate to be
dressed by or even LIKE Mom (or Dad, or sister, or brother, or dog)?
Either
way, congrats to your new (or not so new anymore) addition to your
family. And here some suggestions on how to avoid pictures like this:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that children get 60 minutes of physical activity a day, yet most children typically get less than 20 minutes. The growing prevalence of technology and screen time has contributed to children leading increasingly sedentary lifestyles, and yet research proves that movement is essential for kids’ healthy development. How to get your kids moving? It's easier than you think.
“Reading is the most influential factor related to summer
learning,” said Ami Uselman, RRISD director of library and media
services. “Our goal is to get books in the hands of our students that
need them most in an effort to prevent any loss of academic skills
during the summer.” Learn more about Round Rock ISD's unique idea.
