Free Baby Boxes For Expecting Parents in Austin

Have you read BBC's famous article Why Finnish Babies Sleep in Cardboard Boxes? If not, here's a brief summary: 
For 75 years, Finland's expectant mothers have been given a box by the government. The maternity package contains bodysuits, a sleeping bag, outdoor gear, baby bathing products, as well as diapers, bedding, and a small mattress. The cardboard box itself serves as baby's first bed and doubles as a crib. 

The goal was to support new parents and provide them with all the baby necessities needed for the first few months of baby's life, and to encourage parents to let their babies sleep separately from them instead of the parents' bed.

Shortly after introducing the baby box program, Finland's infant mortality rates improved rapidly in the decades that followed.

Did you know that all expectant and new parents with infants 3 months of age or younger in Texas are eligible to receive a free Baby Box?

In 2015, Danielle Selassie of Fridley, MN, founded a non-profit called Babies Need Boxes. Babies Need Boxes chapters are sprouting up all over the globe, including in Texas.

Babies Need Boxes sources its Baby Boxes from The Baby Box Co., the only internationally certified provider of safe sleep Baby Boxes with strict safety standards, non-toxic and environmentally safe, and currently the only infant sleep space on the market to not have a single injury or fatality report on record.

All Baby Boxes include a firm mattress, waterproof cover, cotton fitted sheet and a bag of newborn essential items.

Baby Box Event in Austin - Reserve your Baby Box

On December 2, 2017, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm, Babies Need Boxes hosts a Baby Box Event at the Austin Public Library-Cepeda Branch.

Currently expecting parents or parents of infants 3 months of age or younger are welcome to attend the event and pick up their own free Baby Box (one free Baby Box per eligible child). Reserve your free Baby Box here (one reservation per parent).
